    Comfortable support

Have worn these for a couple of hikes and these were great right out of the box. Generous fit: I sized down to the 38.5 from 39 and still have room for heavier weight sock if necessary.

    Love this shoe

The ultralight backpacking shoe I’ve been looking for. Fantastic for day hikes in rough terrain. The fit was pretty comfortable out of the box. After a short break-in they really feel comfortable. Sturdy, well made shoes.

    Comfortable shoes

This is my second pair, the first bought in England and were made in Europe. These are made in Vietnam and seem to be of the same quality. Oddly, these have a slight squeak to them just as my other Scarpa Vortex shoes bought in England. The squeak went away after a couple months in the Vortex shoe and I expect these shoes will also. One thing I noticed about the these shoes are they very comfortable on the tail and just walking around all day, while giving good support. In rough uneven rocky terrain, I may want to use my discontinued very worn Scarpa Zen Pro, or my Scarpa Kalipe, but I think these will do fine. Finally, I am not a big fan of Gore-Tex in a shoe because in summer time when temperatures hit 100 degrees or over, they get too hot and if they get wet, Gore-Tex lined shoes take longer to dry. A real plus for these shoes are that they are okay for a wide foot without using a wide last.

    Observations and reservations

Looking for another Scarpa option to the discontinued Zen Pro and the newer Mescalito in the low top, rugged yet versatile category.

I tried these and found that I could not get past fitting issues, so did not test them in use. I have a C bordering on D size width and an average volume instep but found this shoe not only too wide but much / much higher in volume, even with a thick sock and Superfeet’s cushiest insole. The fact that the laces don’t extend lower as they do in a “ approach “ shoe would make these a “no go“ for use in demanding terrain. Other than the radically different fit compared the Zen Pro that do fit well, these are attractive because they are both stiffer and have more cushion than the Zen. As I age with spinal compression issues, I’m appreciating the greater cushion options becoming more available but do not want to give lateral stiffnesss and support. The Mescalito fits me well and offers increased cushion but has overall much lesss structural stiffness and I suspect will would be as durable, as the sole seems to be begging to compress. I would really like to try this shoe in a lower volume fit, it seems extremely well made.

    - I suppose I could try putting in a riser board like I have put in my Maestrale ski boot but it may not be flexible enough.

    Great for getting around

I purchased these shoes to replace another pair of Scarpa hiking shoes (Morain Air -- LOVED THEM!) These are also very good -- great support and very good in snowy/messy weather. I would prefer a darker color than the light grey...that said, great performance.
