Feature PEBAX® RNEW® SHELL AND CUFF
PEBAX® RNEW® SHELL AND CUFF
Pebax® Rnew® materials are premium bio-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) made from the oil of the castor plant. They offer a unique combination of high performance properties: sustained flexibility at low temperature, high cold impact resistance, and outstanding energy return. These elastomers are typically 20% lighter than commonly used materials. In comparison to the Pebax® material, Pebax® Rnew® elastomers combines a bio-sourced polyamide 11 rigid block (PA11) with a hydrophobic polyether soft chain. Bridging the gap between thermoplastics and rubbers, Pebax® Rnew® materials offer a sustainable solution for a wide range of high performance applications in sport markets.

SCARPA Ski Sizing Chart

All SCARPA ski boots use Mondo sizing.

SCARPA ski boots break on the half size, this means that a half size shares the same shell length as the whole size above it but the liners are lasted for each 1/2 size. For example, a 25.5 and 26.0 are the same shell size but the respective liners come pre-molded to the half size.

Some skiers may want to downsize up to 1 full Mondo size, depending upon personal preference.

    Felt small

The boots felt small compared to the newer version and was too narrow in the toe box but otherwise I would have kept them

    Great All Around Boot

The Scarpa Gea RS boot is a one quiver boot. It is stiff enough to preform on the downhill and light enough for longer ascents. I’m very excited to be wearing this boot when I encounter difficult riding conditions and steeper more challenging terrain in the backcountry. Also, the range of motion in walk mode is enough that I don’t exhaust my hamstrings while skinning. Buyers need to know though that this boot is not particularly specialized; It’s great if you want one boot that is versatile but it is not your ultralight tour boot nor is it your alpine resort boot.

The main feature I like is the ratchet buckle over my ankle. The buckle quickly snaps from loose to tight and it keeps my heel down. With my heel securely in the boot, I am encouraged to flex into the boot while I turn and while I skin up, my heel moves less, reducing blisters. That said, the buckle system on this boot is not fast or simple: there are three unique fastening mechanisms and I end up fussing with all of them when I transition. Even more, the plastic tongue shell oftentimes gets pinched in the liner. This is frustrating when I’m cold and windy on the summit.

Overall, I’d recommend the GEA RS boot and I’ll be wearing it on most of my tours. I like the security that the stiff boot gives me on the descent while also affording me comfort on the uphill.
