I just got this shoe for approaches and to use on a new Via Ferrata in town. They are super comfy and grippy. I was amazed how good they were on the Via Ferrata when I was having to smear or stand on small holds on the wall. I spent 6 hours in these hiking and climbing the first day and my feet were stoked!

I absolutely love the original Rapids as a hybrid approach/trail running shoe, but the new XT's are definitely a step up in the traditional approach shoe category, far better than the Crux or the Gecko in my opinion. It has a wider toe box, great shape, feels very supportive, hikes and climbs really well, and is much lighter than it looks. Since they have a leather upper, my only suggestion would be to go a half size down, as mine seem to have stretched a bit! Other than that they're perfect.

Extremely comfortable light weight trail or approach shoe. Good traction, stability and protection for a low cut shoe. I haven't done any climbing as of yet, but am delighted with the purchase so far.

I can always count on Scarpa for a shoe or boot that fits my feet perfectly. These wrap and support my feet wonderfully. As a Ground Search and Rescue volunteer, I count on Scarpa to provide the support I need for callouts in the mountains or down on the oceanside of Vancouver Island.

I have both these and the mesh version. The heel fits a little better and doesn't bother my haglunds. The La Sportiva heel is too aggressive on my achilles. The flex on these is better than the new sportivas, a little bit more progessive, not stiff like a board...If these stay like this, I will keep buying them.
I could do a little bit harder climbing if I sized down, but I sized them for comfy hiking. They are no TX2, but they'll do in a pinch if the climb has a little bigger feet.
